MATCH REPORT

BROMLEY B V CANTERBURY 7TH AUGUST 2023

Today our GC B team played our second home game of the season and the last of the season, or is it?. After our narrow defeat last week, we were hoping to bounce back to winning ways, but could we, do it? This match was played under the new Advantage scoring system, which saw Bromley giving away hoop advantages in five games and with Canterbury sending a strong team it was going to be a tough day. The weather stayed dry, and the sun even come out during the afternoon play. The games were broken down into three sessions. We started with two doubles contests which saw honours even with one game each. Next up was four singles games which saw Team B winning all four of them so going into lunch Team we had the match sown up with a 5-1 lead. As always, the amazing Valerie Smith put on a lunch, this week was homemade soup followed by a rather nice homemade trifle, with plenty of alcohol in it . The afternoon session was two singles games both won by Team B then followed by a doubles game won by Canterbury. The final score being 7 -2 to Team B. Throughout the day all games were very close and special mentions the Adam and Karen who won all their games and to Paul who had a very impressive 7 - 1 win against a very good player . Canterbury were the strongest team we had played this season. At the end of the match, yet again, the amazing Valerie provided a rather large and nice Victoria Sponge and this week I only had one portion. That win sees Team B sitting top of the table with three wins out of four and with a very impressive +16 games won. Our season summary was, a 7-2 win against Dulwich A, a There are two teams that have won two out of two so far (Caterham and Royal Tunbridge Wells) they both have to play each other, and our Team A's next game is away to Royal Tunbridge Wells so hopefully they will win and do us a favour . There are a further 3 or 4 teams that could catch us with three wins, but their net games are not as good as Team B, so we are sitting in a great position and it's now up to other teams to try and catch us. Finally special thanks to Valerie for the catering and Astrid and Michael for cheering us on and tidying up at the end both our home matches, it's much appreciated. Our Team B today was, Karen, Adam, Paul and Martin) and now it's a case of hoping Team A can beat Royal Tunbridge Wells and results go our way. To Karen, Caroline, Wendy, Adam, Paul, Douglas, it's been an honour captaining Team B (Brilliant) and let's hope we still have one final game of the season to come, that being the Final

Thanks

Martin
