MATCH REPORT

PURLEYBURY V BROMLEY B 18TH JULY

Today our GC B team travelled to Purley Bury for our second league match of the season after previously beating Dulwich A 7 games to 2. This match was played under the new Advantage scoring system, which saw Bromley giving away hoop advantages in eight of the nine games. The weather was mainly overcast with outbreaks of sun but in a lovely setting. The match was broken down into three sessions. We started with two doubles contests which saw (Karen and Adam) and (Paul and I) both winning our doubles, so a two-nil start from Team B. Next up was four singles matches which saw three wins (Adam, Douglas and Paul) for Team B and one win for Purley Bury so going into lunch Team B was leading 5 games to 1 game and with only three games in the afternoon Team B had the match sown up . A nice buffet lunch was provided by our hosts. Ok at this point I'm sure you a thinking "who let the team down and lost the only game so far?". All I can say is that it was the team captain and for that reason he dropped himself for the afternoon session, for the good of the team . The afternoon session was one doubles match and two singles. This saw Paul and Douglas team up for the doubles and another Team B win, making it 6 games to 1. The final two games saw Adam and Karen both winning their singles games and giving Team B a final match win of 8 games against 1 game. A very pleasing result. Although the winning margin was big, the actual individual games were all quite close. At the end of the match our successful winning team was provided with tea and cake from our hosts. A huge Well Done Team B (Karen, Adam, Paul, Douglas and Martin) and roll on the next match, which are now two home games against Canterbury and Ivychurch.

Thanks
